Teagasc - RBAI EC 1099/2009 Training

Next Date: Wednesday September 14th, 2016 at 9 am in the Killeshin hotel, Portlaoise.

Structure:

Course 1

A one day Certificate of Competence Training Workshop focusing primarily on the Beef, Lamb, Pork and Equine sectors.

Course 2

A one day Certificate of Competence Training Workshop focusing primarily on the Poultry sector (other sectors, beef pork and lamb are included but the primary focus is on poultry for this course)

Purpose:

To enable participants to comply with EC1099/2009 

Scope:

Course 1: Beef, Lamb, Pork and Equine sectors (poultry will be included but will not be the primary focus of this course).

Course 2: Poultry sector (with beef, pork and lamb included).

EC 1099/2009 requires Formal Training and Competence Assessment in 7 abattoir activities:

  1. The Handling and Care of Animals Before they are restrained
  2. The Restraint of Animals for the Purpose of Stunning or Killing
  3. The Stunning of Animals 
  4. The Assessment of Effective Stunning 
  5. The Shackling or Hoisting of Live Animals
  6. The Bleeding of Live Animals
  7. The Slaughter of Animals in accordance with EC 1099/2009 Article 4(4), slaughter without prior stunning

The course covers all 7 competencies and provides the theoretical training necessary for obtaining a Certificate of Competence which is achieved by successful completion of this course AND satisfying the Department of Agriculture nominated Veterinary inspector that the "theory" has been satisfactorily applied in practical work situations

Included in the courses is a review of a DVD on the "practicalities" of relevant work place activities and welfare implications on product quality
